Dr. P. C. Jain acquired BE and ME (Electronics) from BITS, Pilani in 1968 and 1972 respectively and MS and D.Sc. (Applied Sciences) from University of Louvain, Belgium in 1977 and 1979 respectively. He worked at CEERI, Pilani for 30 years on speech and video compression and guided various BE, ME, and Ph.D students for their thesis work. In 1989 he was invited to Philips, Germany to design VLSI chip for 2-dimensional discrete cosine transform (DCT) processor to be used in videophone. He has been to USA two times once for presenting a paper in IEEE conf. on consumer electronics in 1993 and later on to University of California, Santa Barbara in 1997 to work on MPEG-4 and H.263 for very low bit rate video coding. He has visited Singapore and Hong Kong in various exhibitions and presented a paper in Intern. Conf. at Broadcast Asia–2007 held at Singapore.
Since 1994 he was responsible for Integrated Receiver Decoder (IRD) and NICAM receiver projects in CEERI. Since 1998 he was working as General Manager (R&D) in HFCL, Gurgaon. He developed digital satellite set-top box for DTH application, digital cable and terrestrial set-top boxes with CONAX conditional access for pay-TV. Since 2003 he was working as Section Manager and Head, Local Competence Centre - India at STMicroelectronics Pvt. Ltd., G. Noida. He developed the ultra low cost DVD player for Indian OEMs. He was actively involved in customization of ST products to promote ST chips in India in consumer, industrial, automotive, smart card, and RFID segment.
Since 2007 he wass working as Professor and Head of School of Electronics at C-DAC, Noida. He was teaching wireless mobile networks to M.Tech. Students and was guiding R&D team on wireless sensor networks. He was also a chief investigator for the project on “Development of a low cost sensor network for real time detection of harmful gases”
Presently he is Professor in ECE Dept., School of Engineering at Shiv Nadar University, Dadri (UP) since Jan., 2013 and teaching communication engineering course and engaged in the activities of M.Tech. (Communication) course.
He has 119 papers in his account in National and International Journals. He is life Fellow of IETE, BES, and CSI. He has bagged IETE Prof. S. N. Mitra memorial award and IETE K. S. Krishnan memorial award in 1996 and 1997 respectively. He has been nominated as a reviewer of IEEE Trans on Vehicular technology in 2011
, as Council member of Gerson Lehrman Group Technology, Media & Telecom. Council in 2005, Man of year-1998 by American Biographical Institute, USA, and member of International Who’s Who Historical Society for his overall contribution to the society.
