Research Interests:
My major research interest lies in interphase of chemistry and biology inspired by the art of chemical synthesis. As peptide are the fundamental building blocks of protein and protein-protein interaction play pivotal role in major signaling pathway. Therefore, use of peptide, peptidomimetics and heterocyclic conjugated compounds will be designed to answer the major question related to the overactivation of Protein Tyrosine Kinases(PTK) (Figure 1) which is found to the key switches in cancer and other signaling pathway. My interest is to develop several bisubstrate compounds which include the potency of key inhibitors for ATP binding sites and the specificity of SH3, SH2 domain part of enzymes, for example various domain in Src Tyrosine Kinase (Figure2). The bisubstrates inhibitor may have the potency as well as specificity of the enzymes and hence synergistically towards as lead anticancer agent to protect the toxic effect of normal inhibitor. The all know chemotherapy agents showed enormous toxicity to the normal cells and tissue due to non-selective effect towards to the cancer cells and normal cells. My future efforts will be in the direction of targeted therapy of the anticancer drugs. The anticancer drugs will be targeted using several classical approaches with innovative attempts to increase the therapeutic inside the tumor cells or diseases organ. Another area where I am interested is to develop the inhibitor against PSD-95 and NMDA receptor by inhibiting the protein-protein interaction which could be used for various neuroprotection applications in Neurodegenerative diseases (example of current potent inhibitor, CN 2097, Figure 3).

Dr. Rakesh Tiwari did his Ph. D in Bioorganic Chemistry from A.C.B.R., University of Delhi and went for his post-doctoral research with Prof. Keykavous Parang in Dept. of Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, University of Rhode Island, RI where he worked on several interdisciplinary projects at various departments, Cell & Molecular Biology, Dept. of Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uni. of RI and Dept. of Molecular Pharmacology, Physiology & Biotechnology, Brown University, Rhode Island. He was also awarded with prestigious American Heart Association Post Doctoral Fellowship (AHA) for his post doctoral work. Dr. Tiwari has published several interdisciplinary international publications in good journal.
